Freefall – 2009

I’m not Harry Jenson – 2009

Evoking the style and pace of the Noir genre, the film is essentially a murder mystery with Stanley (Gareth Reeves) the prime suspect. Stanley’s success as a novelist has been largely due to his style where he writes from the first person perspective of the central characters, who are always the killers in real-life cases. Troubled with writer’s block, his agent suggests a tramping trip “to clear his mind”. However, when he wakes up on the first morning of his tramp, he finds his fellow tramper dead.

Fire & Rain – 2009

How do you make something last just a minute that actually takes ten times as long? You boil it down. “I took the steel rolling process that takes about 10 minutes”, James Benning writes about Fire & Rain, “and condensed it down to one minute by cutting out portions and hiding the ellipses in time with dissolves”.

Derren Brown: An Evening of Wonders – 2009

Brown’s third live stage show toured the United Kingdom in 2007 and 2008. “Derren Brown, Mind Reader An Evening of Wonders”, began 29 April 2007 in Blackpool, and ended 17 June in Bristol.The show toured again from February until April 2008 throughout the UK, and concluded with a West End run at the Garrick Theatre during May and early June. The West End run was a strictly limited season of 32 performances only. A performance from the last week of the tour at the Garrick Theatre was filmed for Channel 4 and aired on 13 January 2009.

Gracie! – 2009

In 1939 Gracie Fields, the ‘Queen of Hearts’, is at the height of her success as a singer and actress and the whole nation seems to wish her a speedy recovery from cervical cancer. When World War Two breaks out, Gracie sings for the troops despite poor health, to the dismay of her fussy husband, film director Monty Banks, an Italian, born Mario Bianchi. With Italy’s entry into the war Monty is in danger of being interned so Gracie consents to his moving to America whilst she tours Canada, fund-raising for the war effort. She is accused of deserting the country which made her famous and booed offstage, though she later tours battlefields as a singer. With the war over she regains popularity, performing ‘Take Me To Your Heart Again’ at the London Palladium. Banks dies in 1950 and, though still a successful singer, Gracie never regains her pre-war iconic status.

Frogs & Toads – 2009

Six year old Max has an important mission: find some frogspawn for his older brother. Together with his neighbour girlfriend Jesse he makes an adventurous and touching journey along fields, farms, animals and a forest which eventually leads to his grandma’s home. There he’s welcomed by his grandma, her pancakes and the desired frogspawn . On his overwhelming journey through nature he’s accompanied by cheerful childrens songs.
